The Technique

Grey blending is a technique that blends your greys in a way that allows the greys to blend in with your color service. It's for people that are okay with not having 100% grey coverage, more natural blend, or are looking to transition away from color. This reduces the appearance of greys. The technique uses a blend of highlights and lowlights to create an even blend, The strength of the technique is its all about never putting anything in the hair that will create a harsh line. This leads to longer times between appointments and a more natural grow out.

Who is it for?

  • It's good for people that are not ready to go full grey but want less of a commitment with color appointments.

  • Those looking to start the transition from colored hair to full grey in a more natural way

  • Anyone looking for a more natural look with better grow out. Even if you don't have any grey this is still a great technique as an alternative to traditional highlights and lowlights.

What Can I expect?

Everyone has a different grey pattern and coloring history. At your first appointment I discuss your long term goals and put a plan together that aligns with your needs.

At most first appointments I focus on removing harsh lines that previous color creates . I use a mix of lightener and demi permanent low lights to achieve this. I like to get the hair to a blank canvas first to help the existing color not look so harsh as it grows out. We may not be able to get it 100% balanced with the first appointment but it will be a drastic improvement and subsequent appointments will continually improve the blend as the old color grows out.

What are my options after the first appointment?

  • You will start letting your natural color grow out. Every appointment after the first will work towards making the grow out less noticeable and use a less harsh type of color than traditional permanent colors.

  • I use a color that slowly fades out of the hair around the 3 month point At every appointment I add more low lowlights to help give the hair more depth and a better blend. The 3 month point is a good time to come back in for the next appointment, but it all depends on how it is blending with your unique grey pattern.

  • I do what is called a "root melt or a root tap" This helps give the roots depth and give up to 70% grey coverage. It slowly fades out so it doesn't create harsh lines, but gives you depth without the commitment. This is done typically at every appointment based on your goals.

Should You Consider Grey Blending?

The decision to start grey blending ultimately comes down to personal preference and lifestyle. Grey blending offers a subtle way to embrace your natural grey hair while maintaining a polished and modern look. It requires less frequent touch-ups compared to fully colored hair, making it a low-maintenance option for those with busy schedules.

If you are looking for a way to gradually embrace your greying hair or want to try a new look without committing to a permanent change, grey blending could be the perfect solution for you.
